VERIFAST System. Vertical-flow paper-based assay

We partnered with the University of Arizona bioscience team to create a portable solution to detect biohazardous threats in the battle field. This includes SARs, Covid, and other infectious diseases that affect our war fighters.

Incorporating a paper array process determined by the ANBM team, our objective was to design and develop and fully functional device to process the blood vials through to image capturing to determine negative or positive sample. Not only did the device need to be fully, self containing but the device needed to be easy to use by non technical users.

The Challenge.

One dock to support multiple tablet sizes

Using ANBM’s refined vertical-flow paper-based assay, the device needed processes blood vials, captures diagnostic images, and determines sample results through an App indicating a pass or fail.

Processing this in a controlled lab is not difficult but in a rugged environment was the challenge we faced. Designed for rugged environments, it is fully self-contained and intuitive, ensuring ease of use for non-technical operators in the field.

Our Approach.

Anticipating future testing and development, we designed components and systems with flexibility in mind, creating accessible zones for easy team access and interface parts that could be revised with minimal system impact. A robust, hot-swappable power source was implemented, ensuring reliable performance in rugged environments while providing a self-contained solution. This design could seamlessly transition from deployment in the field to laboratory settings for ongoing development.

Working with Radiant Product Development has been an outstanding experience.  Chris and his team were able to jump into a critically strategic product and become an extension of our own product development team.  Their unique blend of mechanical aptitude, creative yet functional problem solving and keen eye for aesthetics has been an invaluable asset.

They stay on top of project management and the communication between our two teams has been seamless despite essentially being located across the country from one another.
